Millilux.io, by Hiatus.Design, was founded by Chris Shirley MA FRGS, a former Royal Military Police Close Protection specialist, Royal Marines Commando officer and Guinness World Record holder, to showcase the best start-ups, scale-ups and innovation in the Defence, Security and Space sectors.
Chris is a highly educated expert with a master’s degree in business management and an esteemed Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS). He brings extensive experience in UX and UI design, having been exposed to and rapidly decoded complex information to inform decision-making in high-pressure situations. His deep expertise spans risk management, security, safety, health, business continuity planning, and crisis management, enabling him to provide invaluable advisory and support services to numerous international charities, media organisations, entertainment companies, and businesses in over 60 countries.
His notable achievements include leading responses to potential humanitarian disasters, supporting news-gathering operations in challenging environments, setting official Guinness World Records in ocean rowing, and developing comprehensive risk management strategies. Chris’s role as an advisor to the BBC was pivotal in auditing and enhancing business continuity and crisis management plans. Additionally, he served as a global security advisor for an international NGO, conducting oversight visits to high-risk countries and implementing effective risk management practices.
Chris excelled in managing Covid-19 compliance for Sir Elton John’s international farewell tour, showcasing his ability to navigate and make rapid decisions in complex and evolving circumstances. His diverse expertise, including rowing over 3500 miles across the Atlantic Ocean, running across deserts, scaling mountains, and leading remote expeditions, coupled with his recognition as an RGS Fellow, positions him as a leading expert in UX and UI design. Chris’s unique background enables him to offer holistic guidance, ensuring organisational resilience and intuitive user experiences in an ever-evolving world.
