Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach to process improvement that focuses on eliminating waste and optimizing efficiency in manufacturing operations. It originated in Japan, where it was known as "Toyota Production System," and has since been adopted by companies worldwide.

The goal of lean manufacturing is to streamline the production process by identifying and eliminating unnecessary steps, activities, and resources that do not add value to the final product. This involves implementing a range of tools and techniques, including continuous improvement, just-in-time production, value stream mapping, and kanban systems.

The benefits of lean manufacturing include reduced lead times, improved quality, increased productivity, and lower costs. By eliminating waste, companies can create more value for customers, improve their competitive position, and increase profitability.
